Overall flow of the day for Head TS:
7:00AM: Show up and set up your space
- Codes to know: EHHOP closet- 521, storage room- 351
- Print a copy of the sign-in for each attending, Social Worker and Nursing
- Print individual sign-ins for patients to give to clinic teams. Distribute these after the didactic so the teams can begin to review them as you conduct your sign-in rounds.
8:00AM: AM didactic
- 20 minute lecture in the back conference room
- Stand by during CMs daily announcements/ACT announcements
- You may choose to make some announcements of your own
- Distribute sign-ins to clinic teams.
8:30-9:00AM: Sign in/Walking Rounds with the clinic teams, ACT, Nutrition, & Social Workers
(Note: Social Workers are now coming to clinic early in order to be a part of these rounds - please remember to include them)
- Give a print out of the patient’s sign-in to the clinic teams, Attendings, Nursing and Social Work
For the rest of the day:
Manage clinic flow with CMs and the help with the below tasks.
- Quick Visits (see section on this for more detail)
- Help w/ labs TS if needed with: IM injection, PPD placement, Urine dips, Pregnancy tests
- Teach the clinic teams: new skills: e.g. diabetic foot exam, pelvic exams
- Field questions throughout the day regarding pt care and follow up
- Field ALL REFERRALS and ALL BLACKLISTED Rx (see Formulary and Patient Services tabs for more info)
- Orient attendings when they arrive.
- SIGN IN: the 11:30am patients with their clinic teams
- TRANSITION patients: if any patients are being transitioned out of EHHOP, you will be asked to coordinate with the ACT worker so they know what information to give the patient. Please make sure the patient has necessary follow-up and medications. Make sure to e-mail Chief TS information about this patient.
- CHECK IN: with all teams at least once before the patient leaves
- Sign out with clinic team at the end of the day
- REASSIGN Providers at the end of the clinic day to the attending who saw the patient
Also, be sure to supervise procedures:
- EKGs
- Wound care
- Pelvic exams at EHHOP: All routine pap smears should be done at EHHOP during regular clinic visits. 3rd year medical students must be directly supervised by an attending during breast and pelvic exams. 4th year Teaching Seniors who have completed their OB/GYN rotation, feel comfortable conducting pap smears and pelvic exams, and have been directly supervised once by an EHHOP faculty member comfortable with pelvic exams and declared competent, may conduct pelvic exams and pap smears with indirect supervision from an attending. All breast and pelvic exams conducted in the WHC will be directly supervised by an attending.
CHECK THE ENTIRE CLINIC AT THE END OF THE DAY
This means going in all patient rooms, turning off lights, closing doors and especially checking the conference room in back to be sure that the CMs cleaned up lunch. Please use this checklist to make sure everything is in order before leaving.
