Screening Indications for Immunity to Hepatitis B Virus
Only order HBsAg, HBcAb, HBsAb to screen for immunity if the following conditions are met:
Hepatitis B Virus immunization status unknown.
Intention to follow through with immunization if results confirm that the patient is non-immune.
Indications for HBV Vaccine
High risk sex: e.g. > 1 sex partner in last 6 months, seeking eval for STIs, MSMs, partner is sAg positive
IV drug use: current or recent
Occupational hazard: health care personnel and public safety workers
Environmental hazard: HIV testing/treatment facilities, drug abuse treatment and prevention services, ESRD/HD facilities, places for persons with developmental disabilities
Other: Diabetes < 60 years old (open wounds, skin puncture for blood glucose monitoring, impaired immunity), ESRD, Chronic Liver Disease
